If a deletion occurs in a gene that encodes DNA helicase and no functional DNA helicase is produced, the most direct consequence will be the DNA will not be able to unwind to initiate replication. The main function of DNA Helicase is to hydrolize the Hydrogen bond between the base pair of two strand of DNA. There by separating the two strands of DNA so that they can act as a template for replication.
