According to Bergey’s Manual, the gram staining is one of the ways which helps in determining that a bacterium is gram negative. The oxidase test helps in determining the same and this test helps in conducting the cytochrome oxidase test and helps in finding out groups of gram-negative bacteria. There are different types of cocci and bacilli which are gram negative bacteria. According to his manual, the ones which are gram negative and have thin skinned cell wall are Gracilicutes. This is gram negative bacteria which evolved and formed from other bacteria before the loss of outer membrane. According to the manual, the spirochaetes are gram negative bacteria as they are Sulphur and sulphate reducing bacteria.
