What is the green revolution ? how has this impacted supplies and food security?
Ans. Green revolution refers to the research technology transfer initiative occuring between 1960 to 1965 onwards which brought the increase in agricultural production worldwide by introduction of High Yielding variety (HYV) of seeds and increase in use of fertilizers and irrigation methods. This Revolution brought about the change in the quality as well as quantity of food and crops. There were increase in the production of rice, wheat, pulses through area expansion & productivity enhancement in a sustainable manner, restore soil fertility and productivity at individual farm level, enhance farm profits to restore confidence of farmers. This bring the security of food supplies as there were more quality production and less crops were harmed by the pest and other insects. Thus the food supplies were enough to feed the people.
