In ecology, dispersal is the process of moving few member of the species to a new geographical location. The vicacariance is the process of geographical separation of the population by a physical barrier.  

The different types of barriers are:

I. Uniform dispersion: for example, territorial bird like penguins have uniform distribution.

II. Random dispersion: plants having wide-range distribution of their seed is an example of random distribution.

III. Clumped dispersion : some animals always travel in group. This is an example of clumped dispersion.

Vicacariance example :

The Madagascar island is an example . This is because it was divided into 4 continents due to barrier of larger landscape mass.
