Explain the process of PCR
PCR = Polymerase chain reaction
First developed by Kary Mullis
It is an in vitro DNA amplification method
Components:
1. Template DNA
2. Primers
3. Buffer
4. dNTPs
5. Taq polymerase
Steps:
1. Denaturation (94'C)
2. Annealing (50-60'C)
3. The extension (72'C)
4. Repeat
Primers bind specifically to the region of interest in the denatured DNA. Taq polymerase extends the primer in 5'-3' direction using dNTPs as substrates.
