Linkage studies in individuals heterozygous for an inversion show that genes appear more closely linked than expected. Explain how an inversion might “suppress” meiotic recombination.
Inversion cause distantly located gene to bring close proximity to a other gene which otherwise located far away on chromosomes. So initially when inversion was not taking places chances are more to form recombination during meiosis process as genes are located far away.
But after inversion which cause double breakage of Chromosome segments and cause flip or inverted and rejoin cause distantly located gene to close proximity and now chances of formation of recombination decreases and inversion supressed meitic recombination.
Thanks..!
