What is the difference between homozygous and heterozygous chromosome pairs?

What is the difference between homozygous and heterozygous chromosome pairs?

Answer #1

Ans. A homozygous chromosome pairs is a pair of chromosomes in which a chromosome is inherited from mother and a chromosome is inherited from father. These two chromosomes have same genes at same loci. This is the basis of pattern of Mendelian inheritance.

A heterozygous chromosome pair is a pair of chromosomes in which a chromosome inherited from mother and a chromosome inherited from father do not have all the genes same at same loci. A genes found at a locus is not found in the same locus in the other chromosome. This condition is observed in XY chromosome pair wherein some genes do not have a pair in the other chromosome.
