  1. What types of genetic tests would not work for SARS-CoV-2 and why?

Answer #1

Complementation test which is also known as cis-trans test would not be possible in SARS-CoV-2 virus. This test is used to determine whether two mutations associated with a specific trait represent two different forms of the same gene (alleles) or are variations of two different genes. This is not possible in SARS-CoV-2 virus because the genetic material is single stranded RNA insted of DNA.

In addition to that, dominant recessive related tests are also not possible in this virus because being singl stranded, there is no option for recessiveness, The gene which are present in single stranded RNA will be expressed.

The RDT SARS-COV-2 test has 93.8 sensitivity (the probability of a true positive result) and 95.6% specificity (the probability of a true negative result) . Suppose that 10% of population is infected with SARS-COV-2. If a randomly selected individual tests positive, what is the probability he or she is infected?

The original TaqMan assay that was deployed by the CDC for SARS-CoV-2 had primer/probe sets to amplify regions specific to SARS-CoV-2 (N1 and N2), a primer/probe set to amplify a region from SARS-CoV-2 and other closely related viruses like the virus that causes SARS (N3), and a primer probe set to amplify a human specific gene (RP). Why was a human gene included?
