Acidothermus cellulolyticus has several unusual adaptations. predict three of

them. Its name implies a certain metabolism. Describe how gene expression for one of these

would change if it were placed on nutrient agar at 37C. Include the signal, response regulator protein and location of RNAP.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans. As the name suggest it have three adaptations "Acidothermus cellulolyticus"

1. Acidic Environment adaptations

2. High-temperature Environment adaptations

3. Cellulose lysis adaptations

Ans. On changing the bacterium to nutrient agar (rich in lysed carbohydrates like Glucose) bacteria switches the glucose metabolism gene expression. Here Glucose act as Signal and subsequently Glucose response regulator protein signals the transcription of RNA with the help of RNAP(RNA Polymerase). As bacterial cell lacks nucleus DNA and RNAP are localised in cytoplasm.
