21. Understand the role of: Cyclins and Cdks in the control system of the cell cycle, know the main types of cyclins (G1/S-cyclin, S-cyclin, and M-cyclin), the function/purpose of each of these cyclins and subsequently the point of the cell cycle where each is found in highest concentration
Cdks plays an important role by signaling the cell that it is ready to pass onto the next stage of the cell cycle. Cyclins help in activating the Cdks to phosphorylate other molecules by binding on to Cdks.
The role of G1/S cyclin is to trigger progression through start and initiate the processes wich leads to dna replication by shutting down various braking systems. S cyclin binds to Cdk and the complex directly induces dna replication. M cyclin stays at lower level . It binds to Cdks which are already present in the cell which results in formation of complexes that are poised to trigger M phase.
