Given a DNA sequence, predict the effect of the resulting protein when there is a mutation in that sequence.

Answer #1

A DNA sequence transcribes to an RNA and translates to a protein from the RNA. if there is a mutation in the DNA sequence , as this is used as a template to produce the RNA a mutation is incurred in the RNA as well. Depending on the kind of mutation, whether frameshift, point mutation, insertion or deletion, the amino acids incorporated during the formation of the protein is altered. If there are conservative mutations, where an amino acid is replaced with a siilar kind of amino acid the effect is less harmful but in case of radical mutations there can be effect on the functionality and structure of the protein. thus a mutation in the DNA sequences adversely affects the proteins.
