The major groups of mammals are : Monotremes, Marsupials, and placental mammals. Examples of monotreme are Platypus, Steropodon, and Echidnas. Examples of marsupials are : Wombats, Phalangeriforme and Opossum. Examples of placental mammals are all type of carnivores, even toed ungulates, and primates. All the three groups are related by the characteristics : their young ones are nourished by milk after birth, their body is covered by fur or hair and sweat glands in the skin, half of their lower jaw is made by single bone called dentary. We should care about mammals eventhough they are the least diversed groups since they play important role in every ecosystem. They are important members in food chain and food web.
