what are the major lineages of animals? How do we distinguish them?

Ans. Kingdom animalia is very diverse, and divided into 2 major lineages i.e. protostomes and deuterostomes. On the basis of embryonic development animals are classified into these 2 groups. Protostomes includes primitive invertebrates while deuterostomes consists of chordates and echinoderms.

Protostomes	Deuterostomes
The blastopore develops into a mouth	The blastopores develop into an anal opening
It exhibits determinate cleavage	Indetermined cleavage
gut forms the a-n-u-s by tunnelling itself into the embryo	gut forms the mouth by tunnelling itself into the embryo
