Why is carbon dioxide an important factor in the future adaptations of plants?

Why is carbon dioxide an important factor in the future adaptations of plants?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

CO2 is used by the plants for photosynthesis. Thus, many plants like C3 plants are not having optimum conditions to grow at current CO2 level.

If the CO2 conc. Increases in future , these plants can show 20% increase in the productivity.

However , this will happen upto a limit that is till 0.05% of CO2 in environment. Beyond that productivity may have negative effects.

Thus,CO2 levels being increased due to deforestation , fossil burning, etc. The plants may show new adaptations like, C4 plants which currently have optimum levels , more increase in CO2 level may not effect them or negatively effect them, depending on that adaptations will be seen in different plants.

In order to determine the rate of photosynthesis (the conversion by plants of carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen), the oxygen gas emitted by an aquatic plant is collected over water at a temperature of 293 KK and a total pressure of 753.3 mmHg. Over a specific time-period, a total of 1.84 LL of gas is collected. The partial pressure of water at 293 KK is 17.55 mmHg. What mass of oxygen gas (in grams) forms?
