What is the relationship between population size and genetic drift? What is the relationship between population size and natural selection? Discuss and explain your answer, including some mention of the significance for conservation, ecosystem management, or the management of wildlife and fisheries .
POPULATION SIZE AND GENETIC DRIFT
Genetic drift is a random process that can lead to large changes in populations over a short period of time.Random drift is caused by reccuring small populations ,severe reductions in population size called "bottle necks" amd founder events where a new population starts from a small number of induviuals.
NATURAL SELECTION AND POPULATION SIZE
Natural selection can cause microevolution or change in allele frequency over time with fitness increasing alleles becoming more common in population over generations. In larger populations there is a larger gene pool meaning it would take more time for natural selection to show its affects and cause fixation of alleles than in small populations.
