Why can’t the liverwort grow much taller than a few centimeters above the ground?

Liverwort plant belong to Bryophytes group of plant .

They are not much taller because they lack of Vascular Tissue. (lack of long distance transportation) Liverwort do not have Tracheid, Vessel,xylem fibre and phloem fibre ( all these provide mechanical strength because they all have high amount of lignin.)

Almost completely body of liverwort is made up of parenchyma cell . Absence of sclerenchyma is also a reason that liverwort do not grow much taller.

Main plant body is Gametophyte ,each cell have a single set of chromosomes.
