The hyphae you observed today were only 1 cell thick. Is being only one cell thick advantegous? Relate this structural feature to the function of the hyphae.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer- hypha is a structural unit of fungus which contains cytoplasm and nucleus and absorb nutrition from surrounding. If it is one cell thick then the whole nutrients will be absorbed and utilised by the single cell and this will enhance the nutritional uptake and it's further utilisation. This will produce great chances of development and proliferation for the fungus. There will be more chances for growth. So the single hypha structure is more advantageous for fungus.

Two drug candidates were tested in a cell-based assay. Addition of drug candidate 1 resulted in an increase in intracellular cAMP. Addition of drug candidate 2 also resulted in an increase in cAMP Chemical and structural analysis indicated that both drug candidates have a doubly hydroxylated benzene ring that is connected to a linear -C(OHH)-C(H2)-NH-CH3 tail. Interestingly, drug candidate 1 produced even more dramatic increases in cAMP levels when co-administered with a cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase inhibitor. This effect was not...

1. a. It’s estimated that each human somatic cell contains two copies (one on each homologous chromosome) of about 21,000 genes. If you took a close look at one of these (differentiated cells), would you expect all copies of these 21,000 genes to be actively making proteins at any one time?  If you say yes, explain why (generally) it would be advantageous for a cell to actively express all of its genes.  If you say no, explain why (generally) it would be...
