In one experiment, scientists raised mice in a germ free conditons so the mice lacked instentinail microbes. The were fed a low-fat rich diet in the complex plant polysaccharides, such as cellulose, that are often called fiber. When mice were 12 weeks old, the scientists transplanted the microbial community in intestine of single "donor" mouse into all of the germ-free mice. Then they dived the mice randomly into two groups and feed each group a different diet.
Group 1(the control group) contintued to eat a low-fat, high fiber diet.
Group 2 ( the experimental group) ate a high-fat, high sugar diet.
Identify the componets of this experiment by dragging the labels into the appropriate bins.
age of the mice
weight gain
diet
final compostiosition of the mircobial commuinty
change in body fat
intial compostition of the microbail community
Bins:
Factor being tested (independent variables)
Factors controlled (Kept the same)
Factors to be measured (dependent vairables)
Mice Experiment
1. Age of mice : 12 weeks old.
2. Weight gained will be more in the experimental group, which were fed high fat and high sugar diet.
3. Body fat will be more in the experimental group.
4. Independent variable : Independent variable or the factor being tested is effect of feeding high fat and high sugar diet to the mice.
5. Factors controlled : Effect of continuing feeding low fat and high fibre diet to the mice.
6. Dependent variable : Effect of microbial community on different types of diet.
