A doctor’s patient unfortunately suffered severe spinal damage. The patient’s afferent division within the peripheral nervous system has been damaged and cannot function. How do you think this would affect this individual? I.e. Afferent division does not work. What cannot happen now and what are the possible negatives?

Answer #1

Afferent division - This division senses the external stimuli and transfers it to the brain.

so, this is like a messenger from our eyes, skin and other external stiumuli regions to the brain. If this gets damaged then our connection from brain breaks off, which can cause severe problems like unable to sense anything. people with this defect can not detect heat, cold, pressure and sometimes total loss of stimuli reaction.

some common cases we see, are those which are unable to feel heat but they get burnt , it is only because, the nerve fibers(afferent) which carry signal to brain are damaged.
