Can you please differentiate between pre-pro-proteins and pro-proteins? My lecture slides and text book are all convoluted in their explanations.
Question: Can you please differentiate between pre-pro-proteins and pro-proteins? My lecture slides and text book are all convoluted in their explanations.
pre-proteins:- Pre- protein contains the signal sequence i.e. gives signal to the cell where to be the protein so formed to be transported or targetted.
pro-proteins:- Pro-proteins or also called pro-peptides are precursors, which holds the protein in its inactive form after mRNA is fully translated. The protein can be activated by the cleavage of these peptides (post translational modification).
pre-pro-proteins:- Pre-pro-proteins has both the sequences above mentioned i.e. pre-proteins and pro-proteins.
