Can incidence of a disease in a given population be larger than prevalence? Explain why or why not.
No , incidence cannot be greater than prevalance. Incidence is the number of new cases of a disease in a population at a given time . Prevalance is the the total number of prexisting and new cases in a population at a given time period . Prevalance is inclusive of incidence at a given time ,change in incidence also changes prevalance. So it can be greater or equal to incidence , but not lesser .
For eg if in a population 40 people are affected with cholera in a week and 10 more added today ,then the incidence is 10 and prevalance will be 40+10 , so prevalance includes incidence as it changes according to it.
