Explanation:To obtain thenabsorbance value of the sample, we need to subtract the blank's value out of the total absorbance.So, the machine need to be calibrated against the blank.

For example, If there is a solution (salt+water) and we want to calculate the absorbance of salt.We need to calibrate the machine with a blank(i.e. cuvette with only water), so that while calculating the absorbance of only salt out of the total absorbance, we will subtract the absorbance value we got after calibrating the machine with a blank.
