The genomic DNA extracted from strawberries contains a large amount of non-DNA impurities. What could some of these impurities be?

Answer #1

1. Generally strawberry is considered as the rich source of DNA for extraction as they contain pectinase and cellulase enzyme whichhelp to break the cell wall. And also it is octoploid so lot of DNA is available to isolate.

2. One hand we can see the lot of DNA for isolation on the other hand there is drawback i.e. it contain lot of impurirties like proteins, polysaccharides, vitamines and phenolic acid which causes difficulty in isolation of genomic DNA.

3. These impurities are called as secondary pollutants which affects the DNA quality.

Question 1 What positive control reaction could you use to be sure that enough good quality DNA was obtained for a successful PCR reaction from your red or pink flower (the untransformed plant)? Note: a positive control gives a positive (not negative) result, so you need a reaction that will give you a PCR band when you use DNA from pink or red carnations. A positive control is important because, impurities in DNA preparations are common and can inhibit Taq...
