What is the definition of linkage disequilibrium and which of Mendel’s Laws does it violate?

Answer #1

linkage disequilibrium is the non-random association of alleles at different loci in a given population. When alleles are in linkage disequilibrium, haplotypes do not occur at the expected frequencies.

Four causes of linkage disequilibrium:

  • Natural selection.
  • The linkage equilibrium has not yet been reached.
  • Random drift in a finite population.
  • Non-random mating

Linkage disequlibrium violates Mendel's law of Segregation of gametes due to the segregation distortion.
