Cyclin/cdk may be inhibited temporarily to halt cell cycle while the cell is _____.

Select one:

- Making more ATP.

- Undergoing cytokinesis.

- Repairing DNA damage.

- Transcribing mitogen genes.

- Supercoiling DNA

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The Correct answer is repairing DNA damage. When there is damage to DNA occurs, the DNA cannot undergo replication otherwise there will be more loss to the genetic material. p53 is activated by DNA damage. Due to p53 activation, cdk inhibitors are produced which will bind to the cdk-G1/cyclin preventing the cell to enter into S phase. The cell will halt at G1 phase and thus will have more time for repairing of DNA. So, Cyclin/cdk may be inhibited temporarily to halt cell cycle while the cell is repairing DNA damage.
