Hematopoiesis takes place in the extravascular compartment of the bone marrow. This compartment contains stroma of reticular connective tissue and also consists of the parenchyma of developing blood cells. Bone is a type of connective tissue that contains cells, fibers, and ground substance. Bone is not avascular rather it is highly vascularized connective tissue. Bones are also known to generate electricity under pressure that stimulates self-repair.
