For each of the following individual genotypes, list the gametes the parent could produce. Indicate whether each genotype represents a homozygous or heterozygous individual. Assume each letter (A, B, C… ) references a different trait. Capital, lower case, letter with a prime sign (R’) or other different variants of the same letter indicate differing forms (alleles) for a given trait.

Answer #1

The correct answers are as follows :-

Genotype Homo/ Heterozygous Possible gamete Possible gamete (If different from first gamete)
WW Homozygous W _
Tt Heterozygous T t
gg Homozygous g _
Rr Heterozygous R r
RR Homozygous R _

Homozygous :- An individual with identical copies of alleles of a particular gene.

If both the alleles are dominant then it is caled as Homozygous dominant such as WW and if both the alleles are recessive then it is called as Homozygous recessive for example gg.

Heterozygous :- An individual with one of each type of allele, one dominant and one recessive. For example Tt or Rr.

Gametes are haploid cells, and each cell carries only one copy of each chromosome.

Individual with Homozygous genotype can generate two two types of gametes since one allele is dominant and the other allele is recessive. Whereas in case of Homozygous individuals only one type of gamete will be there.

Which of the following correctly describes this cross? Choose all that apply. Now determine the genotypes of the possible gametes and set up a Punnett square for the cross between two double heterozygotes, as you did before in a previous question (no need to attach that Punnett square). From your Punnett square, determine how many individual kernels have the genotypes and phenotypes shown in the table below. Enter your answers as a number (e.g. 7) not a word (e.g. seven)...

Probability and Genetics Lab In heredity, we are concerned with the occurrence, every time an egg is fertilized, of the probability that a particular gene or chromosome will be passed on through the egg, or through the sperm, to the offspring. As you know, genes and chromosomes are present in pairs in each individual, and segregate as they go into the gametes (egg and sperm). There are two possible genes (alleles) that the egg or sperm might obtain from each...
