Molecular mimicry is a phenomenon wherein the sequences amongst the two organisms or antigens may be similar. This may happen when the epitopes in antigen of pathogen and the host are similar. This would lead to loss of ability of immune cells to distinguish self from non-self leading to autoimmunity.
