How can a large amount of biological diversity protect an ecosystem from environmental damage? Why are less biodiverse ecosystems at risk of suffering serious biological harm if subject to even small changes?
In a ecosystem which consists of large amount of biological diversity, the interaction between food web and organisms present in the ecosystem is more complex in comparison to ecosystem with small diversity. In this situation the large amount of available food source is beneficial for organisms survival, and thus can protect the ecosyste from damages caused by environmental change.
In comparison to these if the ecesystem is small, they will have less diversity in species and less amount food source wil be avalable. Organisms are restricted on their food availability and they are habituated for such condition and any small changes in that environment can have deleterious effect. Thus a very small change is this ecesystem can pose serious concern for loss of equilibrium.
