What are sacred groves? What is their role in conservation?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

sacred groves are different sizes of forest fragments which are mutaually protected and follows religious rules for protecting community.

these are found in  Khasi and Jaintia hills in Meghalayas, Aravalli hills of Rajasthan, Western Ghat regions of Karnataka and Maharashtra. In the sacred groves, not a single branch is permitted to be cut. As a result, many endemic species which are rare or became extinct elsewhere can grow here. Thus sacred groves help in biodiversity conservation.
