This is a debatable issue. According certain theories stability is defined as property of a community to resist changes in its structure and function and to resiliate from change. According to another theory, the more diverse the community, more stable it is. Contradictorily, a climax community the final sere in the ecological succession is more stable which has a few keystone, flagship species. To identify the stability of the community, it is necessary to determine the equilibrium point for the community.
