Calculate the genotype frequencies and fitness for your population from the data given:

HbAA= 0.72. HbAS= 0.26. HbSS= 0.02. Population size= 3500

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Genotype frequency in a population is the amount of individuals with a genotype divided by the total number of the individuals in the population.

So here, the total population is 3500.

HbAA= 0.72 means 72%.

= 3500 × 72/100

= 2520

HbAS=0.26 means 26%.

=3500 × 26/100

= 910

HbSS=0.02 means 2%.

= 3500 × 2/100 =

=70.

The data given tells the genotype frequency of each genotype already. To calculate the fitness we need to know the reproduction rate of each genotype, becoz it is data which tells about the success of any genotype in the population.

HWE Question Based on the objective you should feel comfortable calculating expected genotype frequencies when given observed allele frequencies. You should also be able to compare expected genotype frequencies from HWE to observed frequencies and determine if evolution is occurring. Here's a sample problem. You can do this without a calculator! Let's take the noob gene, a gene with two known alleles that determines feather color in the eastern lark. The two alleles, let's call them delta and gamma, can...

I am having a very hard time with allele frequencies unfortunately even though they seem to be relatively straightforward. this is the data set I am working with: #1: Adeyemo 2006. HbAA= 0.70, HbAS= 0.26, HbSS=0.04; population size = 5982 and I need to find the fitness of AA, fitness of Aa, and fitness of aa. AA is homozygous with wild type of allele for Sickle-cell anemia, Aa is heterozygous for the Sickle-Cell allele, and aa is homozygous for the...

5. Dr. Smith has another data set that he would like you to analyze and interpret. Once he had a graduate student researching western whiptails in the eastern population.
