Columella is a specialized structure found in the sporangium of RHIZOPUS
It is found at the tip of sporangiophore. This structure is dome shaped helps in the nutrient exchange between the developing spores inside the sporangial head and the active protoplasm. The size of the columella is dependant on the size of the sporangiophore head as large no. of spores will be formed inside the sporangiophore and hence require more nutrition to fluorish so require larger columella. this is why rhizopus is having a large sized columella.
