why were test tubes C1 and C2 in the carbohydrates laboratory activity tested for both starch and sugar

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Both C1 and C2 in the carbohydrates laboratory activity tested for both starch and sugar , because both the sample were undergo for Benedict's test.

C1 testube showed positive for starch , because few drops of HCl were added with the Benedict's reagent . In this case starch will give positive result even though it's polysaccharide, because hcl causes hydrolysis of starch into corresponding monosaccharides .

C2 test tube showed postive result , because it was a reducing sugar.

There are two test, one where we indicate if the solutions have starch and another where we indicate it it has sugar. For the sugar and starch experiments, what were the positive and negative controls in each of the two tests. Please explain your answers. Here is some background: First test with sugar: We had 4 test tubes- milk, distilled water, albumin and glucose. We add 40 drops of Benedict’s reagent to each of the 4 test tubes and place...

1. Maltose is a disaccharide of glucose. Why is maltose not used to illustrate the specificity of salivary amylase in the practical laboratory activity? Select one: a. Because salivary amylase breaks down the bond between the two glucose molecules. b. Because maltose is too small c. Because maltose is similar to starch d. Because maltose is a reducing sugar 2. Why is salivary amylase not able to break down starch when incubated with the HCl solution? Select one: a. Because...

You are working in a lab and inadvertently place your test tube with enzyme in a 70 °C water bath. Your enzyme is no longer functional and you boss says the excess heat denatured the enzyme. Which of the following types of intermolecular interactions that stabilize the enzyme structure were likely disrupted? Question 7 options: hydrogen bonds salt bridges hydrophobic interactions all of the above Acids disrupt salt bridges that stabilize protein structure, contributing to denaturation. You performed a dihybrid test cross between flies that were heterozygous for both traits and flies that were homozygous recessive for both traits. The results showed some variation from the predicted 1:1:1:1 phenotypic ratio, but the P value was determined to be .25 (insignificant)or good fit. What can you conclude about these two genes that are responsible for the observed traits and why?   (Hint: law of independent assortment is being tested)

The plaintiffs were a husband and wife who tested positive for HIV in a life insurance application physical. The independent laboratory reported the HIV status to the insurance company, which sent a notice of rejection to the couple. The insurance company also advised that it would disclose the reason for their rejection to their physician if they so wished. The plaintiffs took no action. Two years later, the wife was diagnosed with AIDS, and on inquiry, she and her husband...

Activity 1: Scientific Reports You may have heard the question “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” A similar question can be asked about experiments. “If a researcher performs an experiment and never publishes the result has science been performed?” Many people would say no because science is the accumulation of knowledge. If the results of an experiment are not published, knowledge is not gained. The final...
