Which statement describes the processes occurring within the body in a fasting state?

a. increased insulin

b. decreased fat use

c. increased fat use and carbohydrate use

Homework Answers

Answer #1

During the fasting state there would be decrease in the level of glucose so the level of insulin would also drop down so the first statement is not right.During the fed state when the level of glucose is high then insulin level is also high.

Similarly for the continous supply of the glucose the stored glycogen in the liver would also be broken down to release glucose. After depletion of the glucose there would be action on fats and they would be broken down to form ketone bodies and provide energy to the body.

For maintaining the supply of glucose the non carbohydrate intermediates like fats and amino acids are also converted to glucose and the process is called as gluconeogenesis.

So the right answer is option c)increased fats and carbohydrate usage.
