The most important hormone in the body is Leptin.
It is secreted from adipocytes of white adipose tissue. It also is secreted by ovaries, skeletal muscle, mammary epithelial cells, the lower part of the fundic glands in stomach ,gastric chief cells and P/D1 cells.
The target tissue/organ is receptors present in the lateral hypothalamus and the medial hypothalamus.
Its effects :When Leptin acts on receptors in lateral hypothalamus,it inhibits hunger while on acting on receptors in medial hypothalamus,it stimulates satiety.Leptin acts as a manager to help in the signalling pathways for secretion and functioning of other hormones such as thyroid hormones, pancreatic hormones and adrenal hormones and sex hormones as well. Thus,Leptin is an important hormone as it helps to adjust our metabolism, endocrine function and behaviors as per our environmental demands.
