A netlike membrane complex of superposed flat saccules with vesicles detaching from its extremities seen is observed during electron microscopy. What is the observed structure called? What is its biological function?
Answer is : Golgi Apparatus
Found in all cells of plants and animals
This apparatus is composed of a group of flattened disc like membrane saculi located close to the endoplasmic reticulum
Golgi apparatus receives proteins and lipids from Rough Endoplasmic reticulum. They will be modified, sorted, packed and excreted from golgi apparatus as vesicles. These vesicles gets destined either with in the cell to organelles called lysosomes or out of the cells called via plasma membrane called exocytosis
Golgi apparatus majorly have cis face and trans face where cis face located near endoplasmic reticulum and trans face located towards plasma membrane
Secretion is the main function of Golgi apparatus
