What are the morphological, chemical and functional similarities and differences between lysosomes and peroxisomes?
Similarities:-
1. Lysosomes and peroxisomes are membranous organalles which contain enzymes both of them have the functions of taking in the various residual substances and thus degrade them .
2. lysosomes and peroxisomes both are morphologically similar.
Differences:-
1. lysosomes contain the hydrolytic enzymes whereas peroxisomes cantain about 50 differences enzymes types that carryout variuos biochemical pathways in different types of cells these enzymes are oxidative enzymes.
2. the size of peroxisomes varies from lysosomes and are larger then lysosomes.
3. peroxisomes are associated with elimination of toxic molecules from the cell where as lysosomes are associated with digestion of cells and organalles.
4. Peroxisomes are derived from endoplasmic reticulum where as the lysomes are believed to de derived from golgi apparatus or Endoplasmic Reticulum.
