Homework Answers

Answer #1

Reproduction in algae

Algae may exist as single-celled organisms called plankton, may form colonial organisms such as seaweed, or may join with fungi to form lichens. Different species can dwell in fresh water, seawater or moist rock.

Reproduction in algae can be both asexual and also by sexual reproduction.Vegetative reproduction occurs through fragmentation, asexual occurs through formation of spores and binary fission, whereas sexual reproduction takes place by fusion of two haploid gametes. Some algal species can reproduce by more than one means depending upon the environmental conditions.
