Will the socioeconomic status be tough to match in a case-control study if you are involved in a study?
Case control studies have two common misconceptions: that matching in itself removes/controls confounding by the matching factors, and that if matching has been done, then a “matching analysis” is needed. The matching factors does not control matching in a case-control for confounding. Moreover, this matching can start confounding by the matching factors even when it is not present in the source population. Thus, a matched design might be needed controlling for the matching factors in the analysis though the matched design does not require data. “Standard” and a “matched” analysis may not be involved.
