draw a 3d representation of a saturated carbon bond, what hybridization is carbon in these bonds and a 3d representation of carbon double bond and label the parts of the structures.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Carbon atoms having four sigma bonds are known as saturated carbons. They are linked together by only single covalent bonds. All of the carbon atoms present in alkanes are saturated. In these bonds, each of the carbon atoms is sp3 hybridized.

Those carbon atoms which have less than four sigma bonds are known as unsaturated carbons. They are linked together by double or triple bonds. When a carbon atom is bound to two single bonds and one double bond (e.g., ethene), the hybridization is sp2. When a carbon atom is bound to two double bonds (e.g., carbon dioxide) or one single and one triple bond (e.g., ethyne), the hybridization is sp.

Molecular set #4: Construct the compound cyclopropane (C3H6). Draw the 3D model. State the shape of the molecule. State the probable bond angles Compare these angles to the normal bond angles for alkanes. State a conclusion about possible strain in the molecule. Now replace two hydrogens, one each on adjacent carbon atoms, with chlorines. This creates dichlorocyclopropane, C3H4Cl2. Move one chlorine atom so that you have built both the cis and the trans isomers of this compound. These are called...
