Stratification is a system and the formation of layers, classes and categories. It explains a particular methods of arranging seeds while planting and the geological layers of rocks. Stratification in the field of ecosystem, which refers to the vertical layering of surroundings and the arrangement of vegetation in layers. It classifies the layers of vegetation largely according to the different heights to which their plants develop. The individual layers are inhabited by different animal and plant communities.

For example: The boundary of forests and bushes. This particular vegetation structure results in the development of certain vegetation types such as forest mantle and margin communities.

The stratification may be concentric or excentric and appears to be due to a difference in density of the various types of layers.
