Puccinia graminis is a fungus that causes a disease in cereal crops like wheat, barley, rye, oats etc. It causes black rust of wheat. In the lifecycle of the parasite, the wheat plant is the primary host and barberry plant is secondary host. Its lifecycle involves formation of 5 types of spores : Uredia, Telia, Basidia, Pycnia and Aecia. The parasite forms uredia, telia and basidia in wheat plant and pycnia and aecia in barberry plant.
