Answer #1

Answer : Cellulose cannot be digested by humans because it's a glucose polymer with beta 1-4 linkages.

Explanation : Cellulose is a linear polysaccharide polymer which is made up of many glucose monosaccharide units. The glucose units are linked by beta 1-4 acetal linkages. Humans cannot digest cellulose because we lack the digestive machinery required for breakage of those beta 1-4 linkages and release the energy-rich glucose molecules. Notwithstanding this is important for the body as undigestible cellulose, a rich source of dietary fiber is very important for the passage of foods through gastrointestinal tract as it aids in the smooth working of the intestinal tract.
