Chordates: It is an animal which belongs to Chordata phylum. The animals with backbones are chordates. Some examples are fish,amphibians,reptiles, birds and mammals.

Diaphragm is a membrane which separates thoracic cavity from abdominal cavity. Only in mammals diaphragm is present, as remaining all other chordates don't have diaphragm because their body is not divided into thoracic cavity and abdominal cavity.

The remaining characters like coelom,pharyngeal gill clefts,dorsal nerve cord are present in Chordates.
