(c) 2 pairs

(d) 1.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Earthworm is characterestically different from other invertebrates due to process of regeneration, hermaphrodite, small segemented body and tubular heart.

Unlike mammals heart of earthworm is not four chambered. Since body of earthworm is segemented hence heart is single chambered tubular form and instead called as aortic arches or pseudohearts. It has four pairs of tubular heart among which first two pairs of lateral heart is located in 7 and 9 segement while remaining two are located in 11 and 12 segements.

It not only pump blood as in case of other organism but also contain calciferous gland which perform the function of controlling excess calcium in its diet.

Hence the correct option is

(b) 4 pairs
