Red (ginger) hair is due to a recessive allele at the MC1R gene. Your friend has red hair

, but neither of their (biological) parents do. What is the probability that your friend’sfull sibling has red hair?

Answer #1

Red (ginger) hair is due to a recessive allele at the MC1R gene. a person (friend) which has red hair, but neither of their parents do because the genotype of parents is heterozygous (XRX(male), XRX (female)). The probability of that person's (friend) full sibling with red hairs can be analysed by the following cross

XRX(male) x XRX (female)

By the above cross four sibling- XRX, XRX, XX, and XRXR

So the probability of that person's (friend) full sibling with red hairs is 1/4.

In human beings, the gene for red‑green colorblindness (r) is sex‑linked and recessive to its allele for normal vision (R), while the gene for freckles (F) is autosomal and dominant over its allele for nonfreckled (f). A nonfreckled, normal‑visioned woman whose father was freckled and colorblind, marries a freckled, colorblind man whose mother was nonfreckled.             a. What is the genotype of the woman's father?             b. What is the probability that the couple's first child will be a non-freckled,...

Previously, we learned about the MC1R gene and its role in hair color. As a natural redhead, I was curious about what mutations caused this. I found out that there were several possibilities: the MC1R gene actually has 951 coding nucleotides, so that is a large number of possibilities. TRANSCRIBE and TRANSLATE these two genes and explain what type of mutation this is! Please note, this is only a portion of the gene and does not include a start or...

If the offspring are all yellow, what is the genotype of each parent? 2) A plant is homozygous for the recessive gene "a" causing the plant to be short. What is the genotype and the phenotype of this plant? (In your answer, be very clear about which is the genotype and which is the phenotype). 3) The allele...

You are studying hair color in a population of cattle.  You have determined that cattle that are homozygous for one allele (the “red” allele) have red hair and cattle that are heterozygous (for the “red” allele and the “white” allele) have a mix of red and white hair.  You never observe live cattle that are homozygous for the white allele and have determined that cattle with this genotype have white hair but do not survive and are always stillborn.  In your population, 75%...

Draw a Punnett square representing the cross between a heterozygous individual and a homozygous recessive individual for gene A. Assume that gene A is inherited in a normal Mendelian fashion and assorts independently. What are the chances that these two individuals would have offspring that are… AA? Aa? aa? What alleles are in each of the gametes (sperm & eggs) for the heterozygous individual? Now let’s practice using the “rule of and.” What are the chance of the offspring from...

A recessive mutant allele of an autosome gene in a species of mouse results in a shorted tail in males when homozygous. However, when homozygous in females, this genotype has no effect, and the mice have normal tails. What is this genetic phenomenon called? a) Cytoplasmic inheritance b) Sex-limited characteristic c) Sex-influenced characteristic d) Genetic maternal effect e) Genomic imprinting

4. In Lop-eared rabbits, about 1 in 1000 has curly hair rather than straight hair; curly hair being due to a recessive gene. What is the proportion of curly alleles in the population?
