details typed out! Thank you very much!
Why in an immunostaining procedure for a specific
antigen do you normally use two antibodies
sequentially?
Immunostaining procedure usually requires two antibodies --
Primary and Secondary antibody.
The primary antibody is unlabeled wheres the secondary antibody
is labeled.
The sequential use of primary and secondary antibodies
increases the
sensitivity of the immunostaining procedure because
each primary antibody consists of several epitopes. As a result,
many secondary antibodies can bind simultaneously to the primary
antibody.
This sequential use of antibodies enables signal amplification
and easy detection of antigen.
