What surprising fact did Darwin learn about assortment of birds he collected in the Galapagos, after more detailed study of them back home in England?
During his journey Darwin went to Galapagos Island .There he observed an amazing diversity of creature. Of particular interest ,Small black bird later called Darwin's finches amazed him.
He realised that there were many varieties of finches in the same Island. All the varieties he conjectured, evolved on the island itself. From the original Seed eating features, many other forms with altered beaks arose , enabling them to become Insectivorous & vegetarians finches.
This process of evolution of different species in a given geographical area starting from a point and literally radiating to other areas of geography (Habitat) is called Adaptive radiation.

Darwin's finches present one of the best example of this adaptive radiation and biogeographical evolution.
