Question

What is the total chemical output for cellular respiration?

What is the total chemical output for cellular respiration?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Cellular respiration is defined as a process in which cells get energy in form of ATP.

Cellular respiration generally two types

  • Aerobic respiration
  • Anerobic respiration

Aerobic respiration is more efficient compared to anerobic respiration.

Anerobic respiration :

Glycolysis comes under this.

4 ATP molecules are produced initial stage , 2 ATP molecules are used in the process.

So net is 2 ATP molecules.

Aerobic respiration :

Glycolysis

Krebs cycle

Electron Transport Chain comes under this

In Glycolysis 2 ATP molecules are produced

In Krebs Cycle 2 ATP molecules are produced

In Electron Transport Chain 34 ATP molecules are produced for single molecule of glucose.

Glycolysis requires ATP and yet is an important step in cellular respiration - the process by which we make ATP. How can this be? Glycolysis requires a net ATP input but produces GTP, which is needed for the rest of cellular respiration Glycolysis results in a net ATP output Glycolysis is not part of respiration, it is only used in fermentation Glycolysis requires a net ATP input, but produces carbon dioxide, which is needed for the rest of cellular respiration
